LMAO!!!!

There are some things in life that are just too priceless not to pass along to others. This The Numinous 1 is one of them. Go there, check it out, and discover how witty a woman can really be. She is truly larger than life in her candor. I can't say anything else but...she rocks!

Fat Grrl Rides Motorcycle, Lives to Tell Tale

Ok, now it wasn't that bad at all. My first (and only) motorcycle lesson took place a couple of years ago. It went really well considering that the motorcycle was in pretty poor repair and was truly too large for my 5'2". But I managed. And I learned.

I learned that there is a certain sort of freedom when riding a motorcycle and a kinship with other riders, strangers though they may be.

The riding community, and the support out there is strong. They don't care about your size, your color, your religion. They just want to ride.

And I want to ride with them.

I'm saving up for my motorcycle safety course. Then look out.

Roaring into a town near you.

Sailing Lessons Postponed Due to Life

Yes, I had to quit my sailing lessons after only 2 days. Life just intruded and something in my over-full bucket called "obligations" had to be set aside so I didn't dump the whole darn thing. So sailing had to go.

The instructor was very understanding and we discussed my return in the Spring once graduate school is done and the days start getting longer.

My spouse (who was able to finish the course) promised to take me out on the boats until I can sail with my eyes crossed (or something to that effect).

My blue card is just a few lessons (and months) away.

Sailing Not Just for Skinny-Mini's

I am not a very nimble or acrobatic person. Once upon a time I could do the splits, a cartwheel and a back handspring. But that was many years ago and to attempt those tricks now would more than likely land me in the hospital.

But I can do many other things and sailing is one that I have moved from the CAN'T DO list to the CAN DO list.

Yep, I spent the late afternoon with a sailing instructor and 2 classmates learning how to rig a small sailboat and tack it about the harbor.

Let me clue you in on a little secret: I was the only female - I was the only fat person onboard - I was the only one with NO experience.

And I did it!

The instructor had me take the tiller last. I tacked about the harbor, learned about wind and proper names for the parts of the boat. There was this one snag when I almost hit a docked power boat, but it merely scraped the fender, no damage done.

And I docked the boat. By myself!

I was exhilarated! This was but the first day of my sailing lessons, I have 7 more days to go before I get certified to rent a sailboat.

It felt good to be in control, giving commands. A bit scary too, but mostly fun.

I can't wait for tomorrow!

I will post pictures as they become available.

Fat Grrls Can Camp Too!

Here I am, trying out the coolest tree tent! It was wonderful! My first thoughts were "what if I break it?" and "what if I can get in it?" But my worries were in vain. A joy to get into and out of, a pleasure to relax and sleep in, this tree tent was amazing! These tents are truly made for the long haul and I am saving my pennies for one of my very own!

Why sleep on the hard, damp ground when you can be up in the air?

For those interested, you can order your very own tree tent at
