I previously wrote about my fear of quitting after being sick, how it always seems to happen like that, etc. I've been over my cold for over a week, yet I procrastinated on getting back into the swing of prep for tryouts.
But I went to the gym today. Wow, am I a noodle! I did a 200 meter row warm-up, followed by 4 x 50 meter row sprints, Abdominal Rotations (1 set, each Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10959874443346724947noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6670925.post-45926245094164634252011-09-20T19:29:00.000-07:002011-09-20T19:31:54.005-07:00Football Experience - 25 Days and CountingI really hate this. What is this, you ask? This is being sick. The sniffles, sore throat, pain in the ears, sneezing, general aches, etc. In short, a cold. But let me back up.
After my weight lifting, I had a couple days of event photography and photo editing that kept me from Thursday's workout session and Friday was spent editing and trying to get all the things done that I hadn't gotten doneKellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10959874443346724947noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6670925.post-77873138514019763672011-09-14T20:59:00.000-07:002011-09-14T22:18:31.626-07:00Football Experience - 30 Days and Counting
One month. One month until tryouts. Nervous, excited, etc. Luckily, I was not too wiped out from yesterday's walk to make working out today a pain wracked experience. I know that pacing myself will be very important in this endeavor. Pacing myself has never been my strong suit. I have a tendency to get involved in something and go full steam ahead until I run out of steam. 7:00pm - I waited, nervously, for members of the team and the coach to arrive. Would I be able to keep up? Would I injure myself on my very first day out? Would everyone see just how weak and unfit I am?
Luckily, none of those things happened. We met up and did a little stretching before setting off for a brisk walk around a very large park in Ventura. One loop equaled approximately 1.5 milesKellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10959874443346724947noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6670925.post-37936405863741327142011-09-12T20:18:00.000-07:002011-09-12T20:23:58.449-07:00Football Experience - 32 Days and CountingI went ahead and moved my football experience over here from Facebook notes. Here's my original post:
This morning I went to watch the tryouts for the Black Widows, a women's full-contact football team in Ventura. I went for several reasons: first, I wanted to see if this was something that I could even consider doing physically; second, I wanted to see if I would even like to play on a team Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10959874443346724947noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6670925.post-5399999282950921622010-05-19T11:45:00.000-07:002010-05-19T12:20:49.475-07:00Tuesday, May 4th - Day One:In workout clothes I entered the boxing gym. Perhaps that was a subtle subconscious message to myself that I was indeed ready to workout. After grabbing my towel and water out of the car I stowed my keys and bag in a locker. My heart was beating so loud. I'll admit it, I was scared. What would my body do? Could I even do this? Will I look stupid? It's time I changed that.During the summer of 2008 I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. To say I was scared would be a vast understatement. I was immediately put on a slew of medications to protect various organs from the damage that diabetes can cause. Originally, I didn't like to shop there because the company has a very conservative Christian agenda. Life just intruded and something in my over-full bucket called "obligations" had to be set aside so I didn't dump the whole darn thing. So sailing had to go.
